cheap thrills, January 2007

There's something to be said for living in a small town. There isn't a whole lot to do, but it's peaceful and enjoyable. Our neighborhood is awesome. It's pleasantville suburbia at it's finest. One neighbor calls it Mayberry. Everyone is so friendly. Ok, maybe too friendly sometimes....

Neighborhood highlights have included things like roosters getting out, dogs pooping in my yard, people overdoing their christmas lights, mowing each other's lawns, carolling, picking each other's flowers & cherry tomatoes, rocks being thrown into windows, drug deals going down (thank God those people moved away!)!!! babysitters close by, the park across the street, neighbors walking by and waving at us while we're eating dinner, political signs in our yards (usually opposing one another), borrowed eggs & onions, and the list goes on and on.

Today our neighborhood highlight was observed from our second story window. It was the collapse of our neighbors enormous shed in their back yard. What a thrill! What a delight! The roof had been removed, windows taken out, insulation destroyed, and all that was left to do was
to 'fall' the back wall. The kids and I sat on the window seat peering out the window with delight, just waiting to shout out 'Hip Hip Hooray! Hip Hip Hooray!' for the decaying and demolished structure. It will be gone forever. It will not be missed.

It's a simple life, but I love it.
