Tonight before bed, Ali volunteered to me that she had already brushed her teeth. It was a lie and i knew it. Moms just know when their kids are lying (usually). I acted like i believed her and she smirked, thinking she was getting away with a lie. Then the light bulb went on in her head. She said, "mom, do cavities hurt?", to which i replied, "yes, they hurt--little bugs eat your teeth when you have sugar on them". (learned that tactic in dental assisting school). She had eaten pie tonight...suddenly she remembered! "oh, actually i haven't brushed my teeth!". Good girl. The fear of pain in her teeth drove her to brush. Let's hope the little cookie bugs are all sleeping now...or better yet, dead!
